Mount Errigal, Donegal

Scale Donegal's highest peak and marvel at the spectacular panoramic views that await you.

Located near the town of Gweedore, Mount Errigal is the tallest peak of the Derryveagh Mountain range, and the highest mountain in County Donegal.  A popular walking area throughout the year, the Mount Errigal walk is widely regarded as one of the finest mountain walks in Ireland.

Depending on how you decide to scale Errigal, the shape of the mountain will differ depending on your starting point.  One thing that is the same though is the phenomenal views you can enjoy from the top.  Most climbers begin climbing Mount Errigal from the carpark off R251 which will take you across some bogland initially, although this is generally considered the easiest way to scale the mountain.  One your way down from the top of Errigal, take a short walk along ‘One Man’s Pass’ which will take you to the lower of the twin summits of this mountain.

Caution is advised when climbing the mountain although it shouldn’t provide too many difficulties for beginner climbers.  It’s a great way to see Donegal, and the views both at and from this landscape are up there with the very finest in Ireland.  If you have a few hours to spare as you travel along the Northern Headlands, be sure to put Mount Errigal on your list of things to do.
