Grianán of Aileach

Take a step back in time to Grianán of Aileach and over 3,000 years of Irish history

Grianán of Aileach is a historical stone fort in the Inishowen area that dates back to 1700BC.  At 250m above sea level, the view from Grianán of Aileach is one of the finest in Donegal, overlooking Lough Foyle and Loughe Swilly in the distance.

The fort is linked to Tuatha de Danann who invaded Ireland long before the Celts and built stone forts on top of strategic hills.

Spend some time walking around the fort and taking in the surround views, while also making the most of an opportunity to stretch your legs as you travel along the Northern Headlands.
