One of Europe’s most popular cities, Berlin has come along way from a city that was divided for decades. The capital city of Germany, Berlin attracts millions of tourists each year, many of which are attracted to the history that the city is steeped in, while others travel to experience the modern architecture, buzzing nightlife and art scene, and amazing culinary scene. With famous landmarks like The Brandendurg Gate, The Reichstag, The Berlin Wall and the Holocaust Memorial, there’s plenty to keep visitors to the city occupied throughout their break.
Berlin is a city with a huge variety of sporting interests with football, basketball, ice-hockey and handball all among the most popular sports in the city. Indeed, Berlin has been the host city of the 1936 Olympic Games and also hosted the 2006 World Cup Final, now infamous as the final footballing act of the legendary Zinedine Zidane. One sport that continues to grow in popularity in Berlin is handball, with local side Füchse Berlin one of the finest in Germany. Here in Ireland, the sport of handball is played differently to how it is played in Berlin where two teams of seven compete on a basketball court for an hour. The atmosphere is up there with NBA basketball games so we sent Tomás from TomSauce.com along to check it out.
Warning – once you watch this video you’ll want to book a trip to Berlin and catch a handball game!
